Today we travelled 3 hours further south to Ranakpur. Just when I thought I had seen all India had to offer we arrived in this place of absolutely stunning natural beauty! Our hotel is surrounded by lush greenery which goes on as far as the eye can see. There are no shops near by nor many people. We are staying in cottages with a lake flowing behind us. The rooms are spacious and very minimalist, with no tv or disturbances this is totally a place to be at one with yourself and nature.
I had lunch at the restaurant - the food was fantastic! Very pricey though, normally a bottle of coke costs 15-25 rupees, here it is 100.
I went onto our balcony for a smoke and saw a cow walking along the lake. On further inspection of my surroundings I saw a family of monkey's in the trees directly opposite - I was mesmorised! All white with black faces, the adults were munching on the leaves whilst the tiny babies were swinging from the branches and frantically jumping around. I did get quite emotional as my love for wildlife played a big part in me doing this trip. Stood there in the silence, apart from the sound of the gushing lake and watching the monkey's I truly felt like David Attenborough! I had seen the odd monkey in the cities scavenging for food but nothing can beat seeing them in their natural habitat. It was wonderful - I could have watched them all day but I noticed some had crossed the lake to our side so after examining them for a short while I went back into the cottage.
Today has been a free day for us to relax so I took some time out for a little pampering - I may be a travel tramp but I'm still a girl after all. I painted my toe nails. I bought some face cream yesterday which I have really missed so will slather some on soon.
A good sleep is in order tonight - we have a 17 hour journey to Mumbai tomorrow by Jeep, bus and sleeper train then back to the madness of a city!
