Once I left Croatia, I flew into Slovakia where I had a fun 8 hour wait in the airport before catching my flight to Prague. I had thought to leave the airport and explore Kosice however, the airport there was so small there was nowhere for me to leave my luggage and there was no way I was going to lug that around town with me for several hours. Surprisingly, noone said anything to me the whole time i was there in the airport which made me wonder how common it was for people to camp out in this tiny airport for hours on end?
By the time I finally arrived in Prague it was the evening and I made my way to the surburbs where I would be couchsurfing with a local girl, Jitka. For those of you who dont know, couchsurfing is a free website connecting people who either are looking for a couch/floor/bed/or anything else matching that description with those who can offer part of their home for a period of time to a traveller. Its a great way to meet people, travel cheaply and meet a local/traveller to exchange stories/tips/travels with.
Unfortunantely, I only had a few days in the Czech Republic as I was making my way to Munich for Oktoberfest. So in my few days there, I spent most of my time in Prague checking out the sights of the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, the Old Town, Jewish Quarter etc. Thanks to the tips from Aimee and other travellers, for one of those days, I decided to take a bus out to the town of Cesky Krumlov which was just gourgous and totally worth it! There isnt too much to this tiny little town, but it was just beautiful, even in the rain that I had whilst i was there. I spent the day wandering around the town and taking it easy before returning back to Prague later the same day.
Due to the fact that Prague isnt on the euro, i found some things were quite cheap. So needless to say, I did find myself doing a bit of shopping and preparing myself for the European Winter that was coming!
My time in Prague was fairly quiet and tame, which most probably was a good thing in terms of winding down from Croatia and preparing myself for the potential mayhem in Munich for Oktoberfest with the girls! Bring it on!
