So as most Aussies do at some point in their life, they venture out to Gallipoli in honour of the ANZAC's. As i wanted to see as much of Turkey whilst i was there i booked myself onto a Kumuka tour as i wanted confident doing Turkey by myself and to do Anzac Day i think you have to do it as a tour group.
I didnt see much of Istanbul when i arrived as i was dealing with visa problems when i first got there. The next evening we met to commence the 2 week tour of Turkey. I didnt think it was going to be that good at first but boy was i wrong!
We took off first for Gallipoli and saw the area during the day. We then got a few hours nap before heading back to camp out overnight. It was difficult to sleep given Marissa and I were at the top of the grandstand with the wind hitting out backs and my interesting sleeping position consisted of my legs hanging off the edge of the stands, my body curled over and my head rested on the chair. Comfy NOT!! Then you realise in the scheme of things, this is nothing, and these teenage guys who came over here back in 1915 did a lot worse.
It is a long 24hrs with it being hard to stay awake at the dawn service, then a trek to the Aussie & NZ services at Lone Pine and Chanuk Blair respectively. Once thats all finished and you've battled the elements, sleep deprivation etc its a long wait for your coach pick-up!
We had an early night after celebrating Marissa's 30th bday (sorry for mentioning how old but its special)! Then the next day we made our way to the ancient city of Troy and saw the fake Trojan horse outside.
We made out way down the west coast of Turkey seeing amazing views and ancient sites and ruins. There was Ephesus, Selcuk, Kusadasi, Fethiye, Kas all beautiful towns and nice seeing them not when it was crazy tourist season.
We did a gulet cruise off near Kekova i think it was to see the sunken city and boy was it cold! Some were still wearing their jumpers whilst i was trying to start working on my tan. We jumped off the boat into the water which was freezing cold but looked so amazingly nice that we had to swim in the Medditeranean Sea.
Then we headed around to Konya and in Cappadocia we tried to hot air balloon to no avail. The weather was crap that day and instead we ended up getting up early for nothing :( We could have done it the next day but as we had a Turkish night on with all you can drink, we decided to give it a miss and by that stage the idea of hot air ballooning was not as appealing anymore.
The it was onto Ankara and Bursa before making our way back to Istanbul. There were a few of us still in Istanbul for the days after so it was good to be able to hang out with ppl still. I did a Bosphorous Cruise, the Spice Bazaar, Blue Mosque and the outside of Topkapi Palace and Aya Sofia.
I then had a lovely 9hr overnight bus ride down the coast of Turkey back to Kusadasi where I arrvied at 2am so i could catch a ferry the next morning to the Greek Islands.
Turkey is such an amazing place and been a favourite so far. Highly recommen you visit here!
Well thats all for now. Bye xox
