After rushing to ship all of our new clothes home, we sprinted to the hotel to catch an overnight bus to Nha Trang. It was a double decker with two levels of "beds". It was cramped to say the least. I imagine these "beds" were designed for Asians as they were tiny. Twelve hours with little sleep later we arrived in Nha Trang. Unfortunately, once we got to the hotel, we realized we had left our cameras on the bus! We harbored little hope of getting them back, but the hotel staff was great at tracking down the bus and the driver said he had found a camera. What luck! The motorcycle manager rushed me over there on the back of his scooter and hopes were high. After trying in vain to communicate with the bus driver I realized he had found someone else's camera. So we lost all our video from the last month in Korea and the first two weeks of our trip. F***!
We decided not to let it ruin our day so we rented a motorcycle from the hotel ($4 for the day) and went out searching for a place to surf. We had heard of a place called Bai Dai beach where surfing was supposed to be great. After biking through the coastal mountain side highway, we came across a beautiful beach. We drove down a dirt road towards the water and were amazed to find the only surf shop was directly in front of us. We each rented a board and after a quick lesson from Brian (Hawaiian surfer dude) we hit the waves. Even though the waves weren't very big, we both managed to get up on waves and ride them into the shore. It was a rush to get up on the wave. I can see how people get addicted to it.
The next day we bought a new camera and headed to Vinpearl island. We boarded the "longest cable car in the world" which took us across the bay of Nha Trang in about 20 minutes. The island was beautiful! There was an amusement park, a water park and a really nice beach. We had perfect weather for a day at the waterpark and we had a blast. It was probably one of the best says we've had to date.
Nha Trang has been my favorite city in Vietnam so far! However losing those cameras was almost more than I could handle in a calm and collected manner. I still get a little nauseous thinking about all those videos and pictures we lost, but lucky for us, about three days previous we had filled the memory on my camera and so bought a USB stick to upload the pics onto. Thank the camera gods that we did that because we at least have 520 pictures from the first week and a half of our trip! Phewf! So now, armed with our new camera I am fully prepared to take twice as many pics just to make up for the loss! Get ready to be bored to tears when we get home and bore you with our mountain of photographic souvenirs. We are sitting on the bus to Dalat right now and should be there in a few hours. So the adventure goes on!
