You'd think that after a few days you've seen it all. What more is there to see in a big city like New York? Well! That is definitely not what we have been thinking at all. And even though we thought we'd spend the whole day in Long Island to find Camp Half-blood (which we haven't found, I guess we aren't demigods after all!), we decided to travel a little more and find other things. We walked past the queensbridge and in the park, enjoying the very hot weather today! We tasted a chocolate-chip-mint milkshake and it was delicious! We wished the Netherlands had those kind of treats (or not, it would be more difficult to stick to a diet like that).
Then Netteh came with the great idea to go off to the Brooklyn bridge and walk it out from Brooklyn out to Manhattan. So before we started on our way, we bought a real American pretzel, one of those things you can get on the road. It was really salty but great!
And then the Brooklyn bridge came along with a view that has only been seen in movies in my opinion. With Staten Island and the statue of liberty on the left, and the view of Manhattan up ahead and to the right, you definitely know that you are in New York. And even though by now it's not a surprise that we are, we just still can't believe it sometimes. It's again another point on where we can say that we're really lucky. And on top of that comes the fact that we're actually starting to get tanned instead of sunburned. More luck is coming our way!
We decided to go and visit the 9/11 memorial as well because we just can't imagine being in New York and not paying attention to that. Even though we know it happened in 2001, in America or at least in New York this event is still pretty big. We even donated a little to them (not only to get the wrist band!). The momuments were intriguing, beautifully done and sad. Yet we both think it's getting a little bit lame that they blow it up so much. They even sell memorial jewelry and that's just a bit too much for my taste.
As for the weather, it went up to 80 degrees today! Which is about 27 degrees in celsius. It was warm but not in a smothering way. We loved it. We concluded our day with a Subway sandwich and Jell-o and tomorrow we're off to spend the day in Central Park!
