For those of you who do not know, today was.... How do i put this nicely? Now we have had time to let it sink in i would say it was "One deflating, devastating and truly &@$!?@ up day!" Let's start with the good stuff, we got up early packed our car full of all our earthly possessions and drove to Vatican city. We went into the Sistine chapel and had a look it was pretty amazing to see all of the detailed work. We then walked to the big church in Vatican and had a look around, it is huge and we could see where the pope stands and does his little wave to the world.
On to the bad news, we came back from the gates of Vatican city (a whole 50 meters or so from our car) and found that the front drivers side window had been smashed!!! Unfortunately all of our luggage had been removed and well now we have nothing except for what we went to the Vatican with :( For me personally I only lost clothes and other relatively non important stuff, the sad part is for Chels! She pretty much had all her life possessions with her as she was getting ready to move to Australia :( So they are all gone!!! About 70 kgs worth of luggage including all her jewelry from over the years, and even her Olympic gear from London. It is so very annoying and we both know they are only possessions but if I could get my hands around the p**** that did this I could be in an Italian jail right now.
After we came back to the car we had a look around to see if we could see any signs of the bags but no they were gone :( We had a local help us search who we now believe may have been part of the ploy, whatever happened it is too late now. We tried calling the police but apparently they never answer, so we drove to a police station and got told it was shut by a civilian woman who spoke to the 2 officers at the front desk as they spoke no English! They sent us to another bigger station, so we went there and surprise surprise no English there either! We eventually got a completely useless form filled it out and where told to leave, we will never see any of this stuff again. The funny part was an American came in with the same story as us, smashed window, same street, bag stolen if only the Italian police weren't such completely useless b******s!
We left not really knowing what to do so we drove to Europcar as we now had a car with a smashed window, 3 hours and 3 Europcar offices later we had found a replacement car. Problem was it was a manual so all driving was to be done by me until we could locate a different car in Italy with France number plates. It was an Opel, a type of minivan and a complete bucket, it stunk of smoke and drive like a pig.
Anyway we set off in our completely dejected and deflated state deciding to keep moving towards our next stop Naples. It was nearly midnight when we arrived and let me tell you driving into Naples is how I would picture driving into Baghdad, it was gross, rubbish everywhere, so so dirty and Buildings falling apart! This is supposed to be one of the most civilized countries in Europe if this city was in Australia it would be bulldozed. Tough day at the office.
