We enjoyed our buffet breakfast in Genoa (probably our best memory of this place), and headed south. Our first place to visit was Pisa with one major attraction in mind, it did not disappoint!! The leaning tower is situated inside an old stone walled area, it also has some really nice old buildings next to it. It was busy and hot but this was to be expected, what happened next was not.
Italy has a lot of tolls on its main roads which are as we found out all run by picking up a ticket at one station and paying it at the next. As all signs are in Italian we were blind and followed a bus and another car straight through the boom gates without taking a ticket (no one stopped in our defense)! We got to the next station and he was not happy and stung us with a 60 euro fine!!! We will know for next time ;)
We headed to Florence and what a place it is, all of the streets are old, neat and tidy. Walking through them you get to an intersection and there are massive churches, towers or monuments! It is probably the best city we have been to in Italy so far, the big church is unbelievable. It has such detail and so different to any church I have seen. Another nice visit was to the Ponte Vecchio bridge, it has all of the expensive jewelry shops on top very cool. We also walked up to a platform that overlooks Florence which had great views of the city. Finally we had dinner at the Gucci restaurant it was amazing, great food, great service, great location and a remarkably great price!
