We had our worst sleep ever last night we both feel like we have been violated, our feeling of safety in this country has been revoked! Alas we tried to head forwards today our plan was to visit the ancient town of Pompeii. We first went to Europcar at the airport in naples and picked up our 3rd and most impressive car an automatic renault. Driving through Naples today was the same as last night, this is a scary looking place I honestly felt for one of the first times in my life we need to make sure our doors are locked as we drive around so no one can attack us. This is an experience but not a feeling I need on my holidays.
We went to Pompeii and had a look it is huge, think of a small town that is all made of rock 2500 years ago. It was good to see but in my mind you only needed to see one street as after that it all starts to look the same! Chels and I did some deep thinking while we were here, we had 5 days booked in Sicily and were due to get on the ferry at 6 that night.
With the way we were feeling we had no enthusiasm to explore, we have been wearing the same clothes for the past 2 days and it was yet again high 30s low 40s. We made the choice to cancel sicily, what is the point of trying to relax when you both just feel empty about the whole situation. We armed the car with snacks and decided to drive 700 kms to Venice in the opposite direction, we want out of this country and I will not be recommending it to anyone in the future!
We made it to Venice by 11 pm in one piece but we have only one pair of clothes each and there was no way we were stopping in Naples for new clothes! So we smell, we are dirty but we actually have fairly high morale considering we also just found out our home in Bendigo was robbed last night, we are unsure what is missing of ours but our housemate lost a computer and other electronic stuff so chances are not good. I am sorry I didn't leave super guard dog scruffy there, she would protect us :( what a couple of days we have had.
