As we had driven to Venice so late last night we had a well deserved sleep in. At about 12 am we decided to head to the famous floating city, I did not realize but Venice is actually on pretty much an island in the sea. I guess this is why it is sinking etc. it was really good to see how it is set up though as there are only footpaths and the canals for boat traffic, no cars allowed! We had to leave our car at the edge of the island which cost 28€ for the 2 hours we were there! Rip off!
Yet again it was a really hot day so just standing around taking in the views was not so easy to do! We took a huge walk though and saw a great deal of the floating city. We still have not been anywhere near a clothes shop either so our clothes are getting near the point of no return.
After getting back to our car we decided that our best option to attack the rest of our holiday would be to head to Paris. This may not have been our smartest option but it is what we choose to do and to be honest we just wanted out of Italy! So we set up the gps and it said 1150 kms to go and off we went!
It was a long long drive but thankfully if you stick between 130 and 140 kph the police don't bother you and it goes a lot faster. Our highlight for the drive was not the 150-200 € we paid for the tolls but it was driving through the alps! They came from nowhere and they are enormous, the towns are nestled in the sides of them and they just look fantastic! We climbed up the Italian side and then went through a really long tunnel for a good 20 minutes and then popped out the other side and went flying down the hill.
We arrived in Paris after some late night lost antics in a big city and eventually got to our hotel at the airport at about 2:30 in the morning. We were ready for bed!
