Wish You Were Here!
Well hello again from the lovely Bangkok. It was a mad and tiring flight to here from Columbo but the amazing-ness of this place is enough to keep anyone awake.
Arrived at the airport at 10.00am and hopped onto the bus to Kho San Road, the backpackers haunt. On route met a German guy named John, who turns out to be a nice guy. When getting to Kho San he came to the same hotel (a place called Kho San Palace) and we both decided to have a look arround the street. It is a stranage place with a hippy, happy and fun vibe, with stalls selling anything from, noodles, to clothes, to...well pretty much anything you could ever want. I bought a Ralf Lauren (sort of) t-shirt for two quid, then had a few beers with John and pretty early to bed.
The next day (yesterday) started with the purchase of a pair of Black Ray bans (again sort of) for 2 quid, then walked to the Grand Palace. What an incredible place is all I can say, and the most amazing thing was the statue named the emeralld buddah. The place was just bursting with colur and wonder. After that was a walk to what is called Wat Pho, which is home to the reclining buddah, an enormus buddah on its side, it was the biggest thing I have ever seen. While at Wat Pho, I nearly lost both my Thailand lonely planet and my camera, one after the other but luckily managed to recalim them both. Took the river ferry back to Kho San road then went for a couple if drinks with John, after a few more purchases from Kho San market.
This couple of drinks, however, turned into a bit of an all nighter and a trip to Patpong (Bangkok's answer to the red light district). Some of the things I saw were just to strange to describe, but was an interesting night.
Today has been a very lazy one with much sleeping, Jhon is still in bed now, and its 5.20pm. I got up to pick up the tailored shirt I had ordered the day before, and iut has turned out really well, and only cost 8 quid. He offered to do a fully tailored suit for 35 quidd but i'm going to wait until Vietnam and see what they have to offer.
Anyway, am leaving for Chang Mai tomorrow night at 6pm, and John is heading for Cambodia, until the next time I write, hope all is well and your not too jealous!!!!
