Wish You Were Here!
Well where am I now then; Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore......Well none of the above actually.....now those are complete, well to a certain extent, I've headed off to the land of smiles and conical hats.
Since the last entry quite a lot has happened.....so here goes.....
I left Phuket on the 10th March...heading for Malaysia, in particular Kuala Lumpur, and arrives there in time to book my tickets to the F1 Malaysian Grand Prix which was taking place on the weekend of the 17th.
The following day (Saturday) involved a trip around one of Asia's most intriguing capitals, taking in the Petronas Twin Towers (inc. an art gallery and a great deal of shopping opportunity). Once shopped out I headed to book my tickets to the concert of the year, 'Lionel Ritchie live in KL.' The evening was topped of with a number of drinks around the centre, meeting an Irish guy called Stewart and sampling the KL nightlife.
On Sunday I headed for the Perhentian islands on the east coast of Malaysia, on my way bumping into a group of Kiwis and staying with them. Very little apart from a lot of relaxing and chilling out happened there, until the Tuesday, when I left to head back to KL. On the boat to the main land I met a girl called Jo and arranged to meet in KL on the weekend and got a lift to the bus depot with two Malaysian guys.
Once back in KL I headed for the KL Tower, and to the observation deck, after which I went to the largest shopping mall in Asia (Times Square---even has an indoor theme park), then headed to China Town for some food and back to the Hostel for some well needed sleep.
The Thursday was fairly uneventful during the day; however the night involved a lot of dancing singing, and generally lots of enjoyment with the Lionel Ritchie concert. In attendance was none other than the King and Queen of Malaysia and the Prime Minister, and of course myself. It was absolutely incredible and he was such a good performer, after which many beers ensued at, once again the Irish bar.
Apart from meeting a really cool Swedish guy called Andreas at the hostel, not too much happened on the Friday.
The Saturday was the first day of the F1 and me and Andreas headed to watch the qualifying at the Sepang race track......which was unbelievable.....the sound....the atmosphere.....and generally the most amazing feeling of the hairs going on the back of the neck every time a car past. That evening was to bee another memorable one.....met up with Jo (from the boat) and me her and Andreas went to an absolutely brilliant Tiesto concert (for those thinking WHO! He's famous for being the worlds best DJ---and ohh he was!!!!!!!!
The Sunday was another incredible day...possibly even better than the previous with the actual F1 grand prix....which needless to say was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After that hectic weekend a night or two relaxing was what was needed, however it wasn't what occurred with another few drinks here and there, eventually getting the train to Singapore on the Tuesday and saying goodbye to Jo. A stop over there with much eating and drinking led to where I am now.....Vietnam.
I got here on Thursday (yesterday), found a hostel and met some people, going for a bit of a drink but mainly early to bed as I was feeling a little tired.
Today has been a good day, we visited the Ho Chi Mhin city museum, the Notre Dam (yes there's one here) and too the War Remnants.........which was harrowing to say the least.....pictures that were hard to look at being quite possibly the hardest thing I ever have.
Anyway I'm going to update the pictures tomorrow but until next time.......
Tam biet (Vietnameese for Goodbye).
