GOOOD MORNING VIETNAM!!
Hello from 'Nam, hope your all well!
Am sitting in a hotel in Hanoi (capital of 'Nam) after travelling the entire length of the country in a mere 2 weeks!
Since my last entry, I have seen much of this land and many of its very hospitable people.
The day after my last enrtry I visted the Cu Chi tunnels, just north of Saigon.....one of the most famous battlegrounds of the Vietnam War....a collection of underground tunnels and mazes..... barely big enough for a small animal to fit through...yet the Viet Cong lived and fought in those tunnels for many months. After a trip round the tunnels and a fairly frightening expereicne of moving through one...we came to (surprisingly) a shooting range....where there appeared to be countless varieties of weponry at your disposal.....So I went ahead and shot an AK-47, which was loud, fast..and fantastic fun.
The following two days involved a tour to the Mekong Delta, which although seemingly interesting, turned out to be a bit of a let down.....although the floating market was very cool.
On the Tuesday (28th), I started my open bus tour of 'Nam and my first stop off was a place called Da Lat. Dalat is a fairly small city.....with a natural lake I the centre and even an Eifel Tower (yes really). On route started to read the Da Vinci Code---courtesy of Mr Harvey (yes reading....me)....managed to get to chapter 38 by the end of the bus trip. That evening I met a guy named Phong.....an easy rider who offered to take me on the back of his motor bike the day after to tour the city and its outskirts....which I did...and it was great.
The Thursday I left Da Lat for stop off number two on the trip....Nha Trang....a seaside town with lots of charcter and even more nightlife....no need to explain the beach life to you im sure you can figure that out for yourselves...needles to say I enjoyed!
Left on the Saturday (1st April) 7.30pm heading for Hoi An.....after another 30 odd chapters and a sever lack of sleep....arived in Hoi An. Once I'd slept for a few hours I had a look arund the town and was very surprised....it was like stepping back in time....a really beautiful place. Went to one of the many.....famous taailor shops there and got fitted for a suit. The night involved a little drinking and meeting people....and....well ended that way too!
The day later was a bit difficult to get out of bed....but got up in time to go for suit fitting number one and anpother look around the fantastic town.
Yesterday....very little happened.....up to chap 90 odd in book and got on bus destined for Hanoi....where I am now.....which to my surprise took 17hours....not too great as you can imagine.
Have booked to go on a Sapa (Northen Vietnam) trek which leaves tonight at 9.30pm....which I am very much looking forward too.
Anyway....next entry will be my last for a while.....as I'm sure you don't want to hear about my broing job in OZ...well...may update if anything interesting happens.
Until next time
Stay safe!
SEABORNE!
