The next day was our first real trekking day. We had breakfast (pancakes) and set off around 6.45am. We walked along a river for a while and Jeider told us lots about the various trees, mango, coco, coca, avocado, coffee etc. then we started our assent. We walked up to a small house where there was a monkey on a string. Bit crazy. It really liked water bottles. Then we carried on up for a while more through semi Jungley mountain seeing lots more plants. We got to our next rest stop and it was all very exciting here, we sat in hammocks for a while, tried on some Peruvian clothing, had our faces painted with inca patterns with this special plant, had a talk on a load of plants, tried coca leaves (they make your mouth numb) and tried the most amazing delicious thing ever which was 100% pure cacao mixed with honey. It was so so good. Best Taste ever. We eventually carried on walking after a lot of rest time, the guide was pretty laid back which was nice as we could kind of do what we wanted. The views were amazing from the mountain and the walk although relatively hard was really nice (can you believe I'm saying that about a hill popsters?) we carried on to our lunch stop (soup, rice, chips, stew again) and rested there in more hammocks. By this point we all had quite a few insect bites. Me especially. They are yuk. We carried on walking some more along a river which was nice and stopped to have a dip which was quite refreshing. I had about a trillion blister by this point as had to put my wet shoes on again in the morning. Painful! So eventually we got to a cable car to cross the river which turned out to be a cable and a small metal pallet basket thing which three of us sat and and we're pulled across. Mental. Only in Peru. Or maybe South America in general. We eventually got the hot springs which were lovely, we just hung out swam around a bit and got clean as we didnt have hot water in the places we were staying. We got out in the dark and had to then walk another 45mins up to the next town along the river which wasn't nice as we were clean and ended up getting horribly dirty and sweaty again. Yuk. Eventually though we arrived in Santa Teresa (think that was the name) another little town and had dinner (you can probs guess what it was) and had a couple drinks then went to bed with a slightly later start of 8am the next day. All in all this was a super fun day full of lots of things. Yay Peru!
