Venice...continued...
So it turns out that where we were going, "we did not need roads," as we took the water taxi to the completely opposite part of the Italian peninsula that really would not be characterized as Venice at all. Full of farms and real, live Italians, Sean and I wandered around the Italian countryside before finding a bar to settle into for a while, where I introduced him to some real italian fernet (thank you Simon Bourguinge and Alan Kerby). Afterwards, we sailed back to the island in hopes of finding a good dinner.
Somewhere in between the pizza, the italian rolls, and the other food (making me sick to my stomach as I write this), I began to acquire food poisoning. This was simply not good. We did take a pit stop in our favorite bar in town, where the bartender asked us appropriately, "How did you crash in this boring city?" Interesting, as Venice was certainly one of the most utopian cities I have ever visited, there simply wasn't much for entertainment's sake. Sean described it as an "unsustainable dreamland," getting bored in two days in a "cruise-ship type of way," with which I completely agree. That being said, Venice is probably my favorite city we visited.
Sean and I had a night train booked for 1am to Vienna. Unfortunately just before our departure my food poisoning started kicking in. I made it to the main departure station (outside Venice) with Sean after throwing up about 10 times - only the begining. I did feel bad for Sean, but only slightly. After considering staying in Italy for the night and a call to freak out Mom and Dad, I ensued with a slightly drunk Sean talking to an Iraq vet who had decided to travel Europe. I am sure I would have found it interesting, however, I just passed out and threw up for the next 12 hours.
When we finally got to Vienna, I was never happier to leave a train in my entire life. We took a cab to the center of town, where I found a pharmacy and a place for internet, and things began to look up! We also met Ben in our hostel, and I was feeling a lot better by that point. I slept all day in our hostel (Menninger) which was actually extremely nice, but rather drab - and I was a new person.
After a chill night, Sean and Ben informed me that there actually was not much to do in Vienna, so we booked our train for Prague. However, we did not leave before visiting the Easter Market, a common phenomenon during our trip for the most amazing Brat I have ever had, and the Freud museum, which was somewhat dissapointing.
