For the New Years Festivities Dan and I surely made a day of it. I moved to my hotel mid-morning and then went to Dan's house to hang out. He introduced me to Spanish Ham, which is probably the greatest thing I have ever tasted. Here in Madrid it is a delicacy as they feed the pigs black acorns and each family keeps a ham leg in their house on a special cutting board throughout the holidays. We then went to one of Dan's favorite local spots where I tried more Spanish meat, which was awesome as well. After lunch, we returned to Dan's house to relax and prepare for the night. We watched the movie Role Models and smoked his sheeshah(hookah). We then took a quick stop by my hotel, where I changed and headed out for new years. First, I went to Lucas's (another friend of Dan's) house, where he cooked Pizza, Chicken, and rice for dinner. We drank there and celebrated the New Year. In Spain it is customary to eat 12 grapes, one for each toll of the bell as the new year is rung in. There was probably about 40,000 people in Sol celebrating right outside of where my hostel was. Afterwards, we went to another one of Dan's friends houses, taking the train and spending the rest of the evening there. After a long night, I got home at 8 this morning and got some much needed rest.
