The adventures of Sarah & Brian
Finally we arrived at the big boy of canyons, and it sucked! Haha of course not, it was as grand as you would expect. We were going to continue our gruelling regime by hiking down to the bottom but lost our minds and decided to blow the rest of our funds on a flight over the canyon in a whirlybird. It bought back terrible memories of 'naaaam.
We were riding backwards and couldn't see a thing! Not really, there were large windows either side of us and we could turn around and see the pilot and the joystick that was keeping us all from certain death.
They played cheesy music throughout and some commentary that no one listened to 'cos we were too busy staring down the immense crack!
After that stayed to watch sunset, with a guy on a guided tour yelling his head off.
Next day we headed to Monument Valley and did a drive round the rocks, stopping every 2 seconds to take a picture or look at an indian selling jewellery. Very good.
Next we headed to Colorado to go to Mesa Verde national park, where indians had built villages in the cliffs from approx A.D. 600 through A.D. 1300.
We could go into one, accompanied by a ranger who kept accusing us of stealing pickernick baskets.
Saw lots more from a distance and some excavated sites of old villages, most interesting.
Then was a 5 hour drive to Santa Fe. We're now staying in a hostel where you have to do chores to earn your keep. I scrubbed a shower this morning and Brian swept and mopped the kitchen floor just like cinderella, but he isn't going to no ball!
We went downtown this afternoon and wandered round the city, which doesn't look like a city at all. It's all low rise beige buildings and hardly any people. Went to a couple of art galleries, including a Georgia O'Keefe one - Sarah's favourite artiste. Then didn;t really know what to do so went back to hostel and have been on the internet for the past 5 hours...... Need to get an early night ready for our chores tomorrow.
