The adventures of Sarah & Brian
After the excesses of Vegas we decided to punish ourselves by going to Death Valley and hiking around the wilderness (trying to get rid of some of the vegas fat that had accumulated).
Stayed in a strange hostel, where the only other person was a wierd old Frenchman who kept trying to talk to us. We decided to get up ridiculously early (4.15am) to drive for an hour to watch sunrise in the valley, crazy old frog said it would be just as good at the cabin. We went against his advice and dragged our asses down there. It was so cold (about minus 6 or 7) that our car told us that ice was possible and when I did a wee outside it froze!
The park was amazing. One of my (Sarah's) favourite places. See pictures for the geographical joys...
Next we drove to Bryce Canyon (Brian's favourite so far), to admire the rather special pillars of red rock, called hoodoos. We carried on our fat Vegas recovery program by hiking down an icy path to look up in awe at the hoooooooodooooooooooos from the bottom. On the precarious path back up you got a bit too close to the snowy edge for my liking, but the brave soldiers battled on.
After that was Zion National Park, which is a canyon with towering red cliffs and waterfalls. Did a couple of walks around there and drove down some computer game roads and a mile long tunnel through the rock.
All in all, a wholesome few days. We're also living on noodles and tins of crap as we blew most of our budget in Vegas. So we have to distract ourselves from poverty with wonderful sights and harsh hikes.
