Life in Oz!
Linda, Isabell and I got up at 7:30 to call and book our day trip to Long Island. Greg was up early so he came with us to get our tickets at the tourist info and then had breakfast with us. We stopped at the bakery again, yuuummy. Greg headed back to the hostel because him and Julia were leaving to go back to the Sunshine Coast and we waited for the bus to Shute Harbour. It is about 15-20 minutes away by bus. We took the FantaSea ferry over to Long Island which only took about 15 minutes as well, we could still see the harbour from the island, most of the islands are very close together. The island is very pretty. It was very relaxing and there was a lot we wanted to do before 5:30 when the last ferry left for the harbour. We started by laying on the beach till 1pm when we enjoyed our delicious buffet lunch which came with the trip. We then used a paddleboat and kayak for a while. It was easy paddling out but coming back in against the wind was a different story! We had a little bit before the Nemo feeding so we spent some time in the luke warm hot tub. Nemo feeding was disappointing because we didn't see any Nemos and we didn't actually get to feed the fish. We went down to the end of the jetty and the activities guy fed some batfish bread while we watched. The batfish were interesting to hear about and if you decided to keep one it is a $33,000 fine because they along with turtles eat jellyfish. There were other little fish there too but I forgot what they were called and they were really fast swimmers. After working so hard with the fish feeding, we decided it was time to have a cocktail and look at the ocean. We watched the belly flop/water bomb contest going on in the pool as well which looked like it really hurt. We were tempted to 'miss' the last ferry back but we decided we better go. When we got back into Airlie Beach, we stopped at the grocery store again so we could cook back at the hostel. We made dinner with Lena and she was jealous that she over slept and didn't get to come with us to the island. We made dinner and just sat at the backpackers and talked. We were going to go town to see what was happening there but decide to go to bed instead because we were all tired.
