Life in Oz!
Happy Birthday Philip! We had to be at the jetty by 8:45 so we could have breakfast and head to an island so we could dive! Those who weren't diving could do some snorkelling or hang out on the boat. I was a little bit nervous but mostly excited. They didn't give us much instruction before hand, the instructor that brought me down basically just told me how to equalize my ears. I didn't do it enough and the kept hurting so I had to come up a few times and by then we had to go back. He took us down 2 at a time so I ended up going with one of the German guys. We had to hang on to the instructor so we didn't have to do much, just observe. It was fun and I'm thinking about getting my certificate before I go home. I snorkelled for a few minutes and then headed back to the boat to join Linda, Sara and Lena who were jumping off the top! It was scary the first time but then heaps of fun the other times I did it. Greg and Linda were brave enough to dive off the top but I stuck to just jumping. I don't think it was too high, 10 or 15 feet I would guess. We ate lunch before we headed back to the marina after lunch the girl from Wisconsin was throwing bread into the water and attracted a group of 5 Batfish. The are pretty cool looking fish, very flat (thin) but large like the Rays and came right up to the surface to eat the bread. The winds were calm enough that we were able to sail most of the way. We had one of the sails out other times but the motor was still doing most of work. I lay up on to for a while which was very relaxing and nice, despite the fact that the sun wasn't out. We took a group picture before we got back into the marina. We arrived about 3ish and got a free ride back to Airlie Beach by the Reefo's shuttle bus. We got our stuff from the tourist info and headed back to the hostel to check in so we could take a real shower; it was good. We stayed at Backpackers by the Bay again because it was really clean and we didn't want to bother with trying to find something else when we got back in fear that everything would be booked by now. Julia, Isabell, Linda and I are in the same room, Lena, Greg and Ulie are in different ones and Sara and Liza decided to camp. We relaxed for a little while and then headed into town to catch the shuttle bus to Reefo's for the after party. Reefo's is a backpackers with a bar just outside of town on the other side of Airlie Beach. It was a nice little place and we got $4 off our meal since we were there with Reality Is. Most of the people from the boat were there so it was heaps of fun, we all talked, played some games and danced. We went to Paddy's after, a pub in town, to do some more dancing, we were out until about 3am, it was a great night.
