The next morning we got showered and ready then went out looking for somewhere for breakfast.
After a while walking through China town then little Italy we stole wifi from outside a Starbucks looking for a decent place to eat breakfast.
After searching online a diner called johny's luncheonette was the closest with great reviews so we walked the mile or so there and got ourself a table. We both decided to get a hot pastrami and cheese baguette which was delicious and filling. It's a hard taste to describe but somewhere between bacon and salami is the best I can do. After that we headed out in the immense heat and took the cameras this time trying to capture some of the sights we had seen before.
During the day we met a lad called Jacob who was a professional photographer and we exchanged numbers so we could go out shooting in the evening. We wondered off towards 5th avenue where there had been a Puerto Rican festival on so we tried to follow down the blocks to catch up with it.After going for about 20 blocks we asked a police officer where it was to which he replied it's over! All was not lost I found $10 on the floor so it was all worthwhile. We decided to head into Central Park to get some pictures and have a drink, using the recently acquired money to get a couple of bottles of water then sat down by the lake and relaxed for a while resting our feet. When we left Central Park we messaged Jacob to see if he was indeed free that night which later on we found out he wasn't so we went back to the hostel to drop off some bits and so rich could change his camera lens before heading out again to the Manhattan bridge to get some cool night shots of uptown Manhattan. Just as we got there and got the cameras out it started to rain.By the time we had taken a few pictures and packed the cameras away it was coming down a bit heavier. At this point we decided to head into Manhattan anyway without rain jackets to try and get some dinner. The rain was really coming down by this point so we was robbing Starbucks wifi again and finding a place to eat. Again it was a top rated restaurant called the burger place and again it was a mile or so walk from our current location. With the rain absolutely pouring down, we was running across roads then walking tight to the buildings to avoid the rain as best as possible. Finally, soaked but hungry we arrived to a unusual but cool restaurant. The walls were made up of people's drawings and signatures, the menus were hand written on cardboard and the food came out in brown paper bags. Very simple but it was a well priced restaurant with good service and the food was really good. I had a cheese bacon burger with rich opting for a simple cheese burger then we shared some chips. Every burger was custom made to what you wanted as your given an option of all the trimmings etc which was a nice touch rather than just getting something with a fixed order. After thoroughly enjoying our food we then had a 3/4 block walk in the torrential rain to the nearest subway station to get home so like some sort of mission we jumped between the sheltered spots waiting for the lights to change before darting across the road to avoid the rain as much as possible. We finally got the the subway then back to the hostel after walking another 20 miles or so that day. As you can imagine we slept pretty well that night!
