It was finally the 12th of June, the day I was leaving with my friend rich for a trans Atlantic trip traveling.I had done this trip once before back in 2013, which was alone and for 3 months traveling around America and a little bit of Canada.Rich however, has never been to America so this was to be his first time. The morning for me was spent packing my bags and saying my goodbyes to family having already seen my lovely girlfriend the day before. I had also arranged to sell my car that morning to a friend so as you can see, I was leaving it till last minute.
Rich arrived at mine around 12:30pm after saying his goodbyes then we left an hour or so later for Gatwick airport, arriving at 15:30.
After an emotional goodbye to my mother we got in the airport and was checked in and bags dropped off within about 5 minutes, through security after 10 and then waiting around for the 19:30 take off time.
The flight was with a budget company called Norweigen air and despite reading mixed reviews I thought the service was pretty good although the food wasn't the best, it wasn't bad either. The plane itself was a new one which was comfortable so that was the main thing.
Upon arriving at New York JFK the pilot then couldn't park the plane up due to a delay in one leaving as they was waiting for two passengers so in the end we sat near the runway waiting to get off the plane for about an hour and 15 minutes. Once finally off the plane and into the airport border control then took nearly another hour before we was finally with our luggage and heading to catch the metro. The metro from the airport to the subway was then stopped as we got there for some reason so in the end we just jumped in a typical yellow old ford saloon New York taxi and arrived about 2am local time at the Long Island university where we was staying.Once in our room the two other people were still awake which made it a bit easier getting organized and into bed rather than trying to sort it out in the dark. I noticed an interesting name on one of the beds from someone who had recently left our room (pictured)
As you can imagine after the long day sleep was the only thing on my mind, although it took a little time to settle down once in bed. Before too long however I was asleep!
