Tuesday 25th
Today was the first day of the lectures and we all had to be ready for 9am, as quite a few of us woke up it was a close call. We hurried and got ready and had breakfast, and so the day began...
The first lecture was 'The financial structure of the Indian economy' many of us found it very difficult to relate to the lecture as many of us weren't from and economic or accounting/business and it showed in our concentration levels. We then had a brief overview of Mumbai as a whole in the next lecture. (Mumbai: A cosmopolitan city) we looked at the ways in which Mumbai is diverse.
We then had lunch, in preparation for our city wide tour. Before we left we found out that many of us were reject AGAIN for our sim cards, apparently our signatures did not match up with our passport ones, so a lot of people gave up on the idea and headed outside. We got on the coaches and headed for the Gate Way of India, I managed to take pics of the outside of the Taj Mahal Hotel, but we couldn't go in. The next stop was a converted house of a friend of Mahatma Ghandi. Ghandi had stayed there for a little while and now it houses a lot of Ghandi's books and articles he worked with and has many exhibitions showcasing he life and teachings. We the made our way to the Laundering district which was very large and busy, this particular profession is only done by men so it proves can clean (Just not me!). We then visited the Jain Temple which was sacred and many beautifully crafted, ornate statues and many people immersed in worship, we had to take our shoes of as a mark of respect, but it was worth it from the sight we got too see. Our final stop was the Hanging Gardens of Mumbai, which housed animals cut from hedges, a giant yellow shoe, and we climbed on top and took pictures. We were able to see real-life bats flying up above, this was a surprise as it was still daytime and there weren't any caves around. After taking a group photo in front skyline we headed back to the hotel with free energy drinks given to us by "Red Bull" Reps.
When we got back, we all had dinner and all planned to go out clubbing to celebrate the birthday of a good friend of ours. We had all planned to meet in the lobby at 22:30 but hardly anybody was on time so we chilled in the hotel bar until we all arrived. An hour later we set out in a convoy of taxis and made our way to the 'Red Light' club and we were foreigners we were able to gain quick entry. However, when we got there the club was half empty and filled with 30 year olds. We didn't let it spoil our fun and we enjoyed ourselves partying the night away. At the end of the night (01:30) the club started to close and we sang happy birthday to the birthday girl and she made a speech, after a good night we made our way back to the hotel and got ready for sleep as Wednesday was an earlier start.
