Went to the animal aid sanctuary for the first time. Erika ans clare who run it were really friendly and got us both settled in wit the vet nurses. Amanda was in the large animal section wth the cows and donkeys, many of which were paralysed or had amputations.
I went to the section i can only describe as 'maggot mayhem'. There were about 40 dogs in this section and they were in for wounds that had festered in the humidity and become infested with maggots. We cleaned all the wounds which took us until around 1pm.
Then we went for lunch at little cafe where we had a really tasty meal for 20p!!
In the afternoon amanda and i fussed the dogs in 'handicapped heaven'. These dogs live at the centre in a specially designed enlcosure. They have been in accidents which jave injured their spines and most of them have no control of their back legs. They get around really well and love to be fussed. One of the main problems for them is that they can't scratch themselves, but they combat this by grooming each other! It was very inspiring seeing how cheerful these dogs are despite their situation. They get physio every day and many of them learn to walk again!
We then helped feed the animals (including a new born Bos Indicus calf) and went back to the hotel.
So it's been a great day and hopefully i can put some photos up at the weekend.

Mick Guest So the real adventure has started. Sounds like you're going to lots of experience. Looking forward to the photos but don't make them too gruesome. By the way does the meal for 20p include beer!!!!
