It was still wet in the air we awoke, but today we decided to do a bit of history and drove towards Hallstatt. The oldest salt mine in the world. It was a wet drive but we arrived at lunchtime. The local resturants were just closing so we did not manage to to get lunch, but we had supplies in the van so we had lunch and a lazy afternoon at the campsite before going back to the local resturant for a traditional Austrian meal (At least the most traditional Austrian meal we had had so far).
It rained over night....
In the morning we walked up to the cable car and got the tickets (having been creative about Rebeccas age and said she was four.) Having chatted to the person at the cable car we decided to have a quick snack in the village and look around before going up to the mine.
The walk from the top of the cable car to the mine was about 10 to 15 minutes in length but from there you got a good view of Hallstattsee. The tour around the mine was excellent and the children enjoyed the slides that the miners used to decend between levels. Adrian got the speed record down the biggest slide, being clocked at 33 kmh whilst going down it. (The rest of us got speeds of around 27 kmh).
We decended from the mountain, visited the local shops to get food for the evening and settled down for the night, and this time it did not rain.
