Really went 'off exploring' today. We walked to Piazza Venezia and went through an amazing building called The Imperial. This is a war museum and contained old flags, photos, paintings and film clips, right back to the 1800's.
The architecture of the building was breathtaking, including the incredible bronze statues. We found a lift that took us right to the top of the building and the panoramic view was so beautiful. There we were surrounded by the Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum and various basilicas.
We found a pizzeria for lunch and I had Amatriciana, my first pasta in Rome. Very yummy! The pasta is a different density to ours and more al dente.
After a good break at lunch we then went exploring the roman forum and the Colosseum. An amazing experience walking among the paths and ruins of homes dated BC. Even saw where the Vestal Virgins were housed, but they weren't home ...
Then the Colosseum. We all kind of know what went on there, but to be standing inside was certainly an experience. They are restoring a lot of it, and had very detailed graphic displays of the amphitheater.
Ross took heaps of photos so we'll upload those tonight.
