Krabi.. The name didn't give us high hopes, to me it just sounds like a weird s.t.d. But it was actually a really nice change from the other islands which we had just left. We first had to get a slow boat to the main land then go across by coach. It was extremely hot that day and it was painful to have to walk with our backpacks in almost 40degrees!
The coach was horrible! After standing around waiting for instructions and only being given a sticker for any form of ticket in the sun suddenly we were being rushed onto a bus with no toilet... Well there was a toilet but it was obviously blocked!
Then the air con didn't work and since we hadn't eaten anything apart from crisps all day everyone's moods were definitely beginning to drastically fall.
However... Once the scenery started to change and we were put on a very overloaded tram/truck, things slowly began to go our way. Suddenly sheer limestone cliffs began jutting out of the ground and it was amazing to see the difference in terrain from only crossing to the other side! Even the sea wax a different colour. Instead of clear turquoise it was a bright emerald green against white stand and white golden cliffs.
The journey had definitely been worth it!
We checked into our lovely garden villa bungalows which were clean and spacious and the air con worked well. It was also far enough out to be budget but close enough to town to walk. Unfortunately though Emily became Ill then Megan then me so most of our time was spent in our bungalows (which were nice enough to want to spend time in!)
Krabi town itself was lovely, although there were still plenty of westerners they tended to be slightly older then backpackers. Prostitution was quite evident in krabi, with plenty of lady bars to go around! One of the marketing strategies to get normal punters in was to say prostitutes were banned! Which suited us fine as if meant (not so many) horrible fat western men looking for a bit of fun!
Abi. Megan and I all went on a boat trip to one of the less popular beaches nearby. There was a cave at one end full of giant phallic symbols, so many that the formed a mountain of them! The water was amazingly clear and you could see all the fish swimming around... But I didn't really like that due to my fear of fish!
