We arrived at koh samui on a very rough and bumpy ferry from ko Tao, so rough in fact that people were throwing up over the edge, which is always pleasant that early in the morning. Since we left in torrential rain none of us put sun cream on resulting in very red miserable girls when we finally arrived! First impressions of koh samui weren't great, it looked more like benidorm than Thailand. The endless rows of tacky tourist shops next to girl bars was disappointing to say the least. Our hotel, Z hotel in the centre of town was also a bit depressing, opposite a building site which starts at 7.30 every morning with constant drilling until about 7 in the evening. But apart from that it was nice enough, the beds were clean and it had free wifi. We rented a jeep out for a day and drove to na muang waterfalls which was really nice, then went over to lamai beach to try and spot the famous grandmother and grandfather rocks, unfortunately the tide was against us so we'd couldn't find them! All in all koh samui wasn't my cup of tea, nor the others, and the girl bars with vast amounts of western fat men was extremely depressing in an otherwise nice island. X
