Day 34 (7/8/11):
We took our test today, and I was a little disappointed in my performance. I made a few silly mistakes on it, and if I had paused for a second while taking it I would have written the right answer! Oh well, I still did okay. After the exam, we learned about common Italian hand gestures. It was interesting in class to hear everyone talk about what the same hand gesture means in their countries.
In intensive, we had a group activity of opening a restaurant somewhere in Italy. We had to discuss what it would be like, the menu, the décor, etc. Then we listened to a Jovanotti song a few times and tried to understand the words. My teacher was really excited because she was going to her first Jovanotti concert that night. It makes me laugh a little that I just learned who he is within the past couple years, and yet I've already been to one of his shows!
After class, Andrew and I went to the Carrefour Express foodstore near school and got some stuff to make a panino - we bought olive bread rolls, mortadella, and a giant ball of mozzarella to split. Yum!
Once we were done eating, we went to the Musei di Roma, wandered around inside. I notice such strange things about statues. For example, there were several busts of various Popes, and as I was looking at them I noticed that some of them didn't have all their buttons buttoned up! A couple times I almost wanted to reach out and fix the button that was only halfway through it's hole :o) An interesting exhibit in this museum was of etches of old Rome. Andrew and I both felt so experienced, being able to recognize the various parts of town.
Our next stop was the Napolean Museum. It was a good museum to get to, and I'm glad I could cross both of today's trips off of my "to see" list that I made the nigh before :o)
Later on, Andrew and I parted ways (after getting a gelato, of course!). Around 9:00 p.m. Donna and I met up to walk to Trastevere together to meet up with the rest of the boys. We arrived before them, so we stopped in a cute little bar called Antica Café and ordered a drink called an Arizona. It was really tasty, and even came with a small piece of passion fruit! Since we were sitting at the bar, we tried chatting with the bartender in Italian. He was very nice, and even gave us a complimentary drink! It was a shot of vodka mixed with honey and pepper. It sounds really gross, but was actually quite tasty! Donna and I eventually met up with the guys, and we all headed towards Piazza Navona. Donna and I stopped into a place for a little while since we liked the music, and later met back up with the guys at a place called Le Maison. It was a very fun night, full of dancing and fun!
