Day 12 (6/16/11):
After going to sleep around 5:00 a.m. (yikes!), we were quite confused when the alarm went off at 7:30 a.m.! After hitting snooze a few times, we got up around 9:30 to head to Ostia beach for the day! Our first stop, of course, was for a cappuccino (for Jackie) and espresso (for me) and then we headed to the Metro. It was another gorgeous day in Rome! After taking two metros and walkiong a few blocks, we finally arrived at the beach... but unfortunately we only had a little over an hour before we would have to leave and get to class!
We rented beach chairs and jumped right in the beautiful water - so refreshing!! I took this time on the beach to catch up in my journal while Jackie took a nap. I have to admit, I was a little jealous of her quick snooze :o)
We were a little late getting back to Rome, so we ran straight to class once the metro stopped. Today we learned about reflexsive verbs and how they work in the future tense. Duriong the second part of class we did a group activity where we had to make a plan to open a pub and explain all the details about it. Although I was exhausted from the night before, and some stuff wasn't making the most sense in my head, it was a really fun activity!
After class, we met up with Donna to book our trip to Firenze for the upcoming weekend! We can't wait to go there!
Afterwards Jackie and I headed straight to dinner because we were really hungry from skipping lunch. We went to a restaurant right on the Tevere River, San Giuseppe, and sat at a table right on the water's edge. It was a gorgeous night! We arrived a little early for food, apparently, because the waitstaff were still setting up and getting the tables ready for the night. They still sat us, though, and we ordered some wine and chatted while we watched a bridal photo shoot across the river. We wanted to try a couple things on the menu so we ordered an appetizer of fried meatballs with an olive inside - delicious! Then I ordered spaghetti with seafood of mussels, clams and prawns in a tomato sauce and Jackie ordered spaghetti with clams in a garlic white wine sauce. We decided we needed a little more and ordered the seafood risotto, too! I mean, we did skip lunch, afterall... :o) When we ordered, our very nice waiter responded, "Tre primi!??!?!" Haha... Then a waitress heard we were from Boston and came over to "congratulate us on our Bruins." I absolutely recommend going there sometime!
To no one's surprise we ate every bite of our 3 primi piati!! After being there for a few hours we decided to head home. We strolled a little bit of the way and eventually caught the bus. Once home and showered, we realized how exhausted we were, so we updated our journals, sent some emails and went to sleep.
