Day 7 (6/11/11):
Waking up in Sorrento was absolutely beautiful! We had an amzing view of the water from our hostel, and from the restaurant upstairs, and all the greenery and flowers looked SO lush and vibrant! We had signed up through the hostel to do a boat tour and drop off at Capri for the day, so we woke up early and headed down to the docks to catch the boat. It was a little chilly/brrezy by the water, so it was good we signed up for a boat tour instead of planning to spend the day at the beach.
Donna and I were standing inside on the boat since it was chilly, and the captain asked us if we wanted to sit up in front with him! That was fun :o) We missed most of the tour/explanation by the guide about what we were sailing by, but it was really fun to sit up in the captains quarters haha... We went to the Blue Grotto, but weren't able to see its full beauty because of the cloudy sky (I'll just have to go back!), and we also saw the bright orange coral that grows around the island, and a teeny tiny hole where boats sail through to take a shortcut through the other side of the island. Um, no thanks - I'll take the long way! We also saw the statue of a boy who looks like he is waving to the boats passing by, welcoming them to the island.
The boat docked at Marina Piccola, and we decided to do the guided tour with Vincenzo since it looked like it was about to start raining. He was very informative, and also gave us some time on our own to explore, take pictures, and shop. The shops here were incredible! I also loved how the street/building signs were all made out of gorgeously painted tiles. Everything looked so colorful and pretty, I couldn't get enough!
We stopped in the beautiful Giardini Augusto, which was abundent with flowers and hearbs of all kinds, and had gorgeous views of the famous Capri coast. We also stopped in a Perfumeria that had some wonderful scents inside, and some smaller shops to look at the souvenirs. Limoncello is abundent here because of their ridiculously large lemons! When I say "ridiculously large" I really mean it... they're probably close to th size of a bowling ball!
After Capri, we took a short shuttle ride up to Anacapri for a quick lunch, and a chair lift ride up to the top of a mountain. The chef at the restaurant took a liking to Jackie, and made her a heart-shaped pizza! Cute :o)
My pictures from the top of the mountain just don't even do this place justice. It is SO beautiful! I could stare at the scenery for hours!
On th boatride back to Nettuno, we stopped by a cave that has a statue of the Madonna in it. I'm not sure if it was put there, or just happened to be form in that shape, though. We also sailed under the tunnel of love - you're supposed to kiss your lover or hug a friend when you go under it. Group hug!! :o)
That night, we went to a club that Vincenzo had recommended to us. It was fun! The whole thing was outside, with tented bars, and everyone as dancing up a storm to the Italian and American music they played. Overall, it was a great night!
Day 8 (6/12/11):
We plannd on having a nice long beach day today, and the weather worked out perfectly! It was absolutely gorgeous outside, and we spent hours lounging, trying to catch up in our journals, and chatting. Eventually, we headed out and took the 5 hour journey back to Rome...
