Ciao!
Rome: Week 1!
We arrived in Rome in the afternoon on Sunday, and got settled into our apartment a little before exploring the area. Our apartment is ok... it's SUPER tiny, with a queensize bed for us to share, a vanity table, and a small wardrobe. There is a very tiny walking space next to the bed, and that's about it! Our bathroom is attached to the room, which is nice, but also very tiny. It is definitely close quarters for the next few weeks! :o)
We decided to try to find our school so we would know how to get there the next morning. First stop, though, coffee! We found a bar down the street and stopped in. I got an espresso and Jackie got a capuccino. Now this is something I could do every day! Their coffee is SO good. After our coffee, we continued walking and ended up finding the Colosseum! Turns out our apartment is about a 10 minute walk away. It is pretty cool to say you live down the street from such a famous and large monument!
The weather wasn't very nice out, so we were hopping in and out from doorways and buildings to try to stay out of the rain. Now and then we even hid under a tree to avoid a short downpour! Eventually, we hailed a cab and had it take us to school, since we figured we would never make it there at the rate we were going (plus, we kept getting lost... whoops!) Once we eventually found our way downtown, we spotted some celebrities walking to the ATM we had just stopped at! It was Jesse Metcalf and Gilles Marini - so handsome! We were definitely star struck as we took a picture with them and tried to have a friendly chat. How exciting to meet them, though!! They were really nice, too! What luck that it was raining out and we ended up taking that cab, otherwise we would not have had our celebrity moment!
Our school ended up being right around the corner from our new favorite ATM :o) We figured out which bus we would need to take, and then went back to our neighborhood. That night, we had dinner at a restaurant by the Colosseum called Martini Rossi. We shared a nice salad, and each got a pasta dish - mine was ravioli with mushrooms and sausage, and a nice glass of chianti. Jackie got a fettucine with mushroom alfredo sauce and a glass of house white. Yum!!! Both our dishes were absolutely delicious!
