A ride along the coast
Today's ride kicked off from our motel at the very southern end of Nha Trang beach. We cycled 5 or 6 kilometres along the promenade before climbing our way up into the hills that overlook the northern coastline. The ascent gave us a great workout and the summit provided fantastic views over the ocean for as far as the eye could see. We enjoyed a long, gradual descent on the other side that led us through a dozen tiny fishing villages that litter the coast line - literally. The scenery was great but the beaches are an eye sore… chock-a-block with disused plastic bags, drink bottles and who knows what. No sign of sand but I'm sure it's there. The photos tell the story., This is a truly beautiful part of the world though. The locals were so friendly. Everywhere we stopped drew a huge crowd of smiling children and curious parents, keen to practice their english and have their photos taken.
Further north, we managed to get lost in the rice fields and ended up back tracking a km or two to find our way through. The morning was warm and dry, the afternoon warm and drizzly. All up we managed to clock up 80 enjoyable kilometres for the day. Our accommodation for the night was in a fairly flash motel in Tuy Hoa. I've no doubt that we had pre-booked our digs but they still seemed surprised to see 16 dirty, sodden cyclists riding up to the main entrance door for valet parking and room keys! No stacks today.- comments
