A big day in the saddle
The ride from Da Lat to Nha Trang was nothing short of amazing. The best cycling I've ever done. We kicked off early for our 100+ kilometre trek over the mountains and down to the gorgeous coastal city of Nha Trang. The weather was in the mid-20's when we left Da Lat. Clear skies and a slight breeze looked promising for what was expected to be a tiresome day.
We soon hit the hills and climbed our way up into the mountains where the temperature dropped into the mid-teens. We became surrounded by fog. Then rain. Followed by the winds. The first climb was roughly 3 kilometres in length. The group generally stayed together with just a few minutes between first and last. Tour leader Tuan gave us a motivational pep-talk as we prepared for the 6 kilometre-long final climb of the day - choosing to highlight the 30+ km-long downhill 'reward' on the other side. He somehow forgot to mention the mudslide, the pot holes, the soden clothes and the frozen feet. Ah well.
All-in-all an amazing day with breathtaking scenery, mud and grime from head to toe and smiles from ear to ear.
There is a Nha Trang cycling photo album.
