Wow. Gorgeous. Charming. Friendly. Energetic. Got to get me a job here…
Hoi An was a major international seaport during the 16th and 17th centuries, and the foreign influences are obvious to this day. The serious shipping business has moved north to Da Nang and Hat Phong leaving a relaxed seaside township full of character and atmosphere. The heart of the city is the Old Town, which is full of narrow lanes and old Chinese styled shophouses which have been largely preserved from yesteryear. There are no modern buildings to ruin the town's ambience. The eastern side of town is flanked by a bustling canal that connects the nearby islands and provides a very relaxing backdrop for outdoor diners. Most of the shops in town now cater to the tourist trade and town was full of travellers during our stay.
Oh yeah... We rode roughly 40k's to My Son temple and back. On the way we stopped at the local pottery shop to see them ply their trade. I left my memory card in the laptop so only have a few photos of the cycling trip and temple. Some alright photos for an average photographer. I'll try to steal some from the good photographers!
