Friday 5 January 2007 - The Ashes 5th Test Day 4
Packed our suitcases and moved out of the palace! Sarah took us to our temporary home, while Sarah's friends Jane and Ian were staying with them for the week. A bit concerned when we got there to find some people in the bed! Turfed them out, dumped our stuff and off to the cricket!
Made our way to the SCG - Sydney Cricket Ground. Got a beer and took our seats in the higher tiers. Just as we had sat down Pieterson was out! Gutted! Another one we wouldn't see batting (Freddie had been taken out in the dying minutes the night before!)
Getting abuse from the Aussie supporters saying that we would be back indoors in an hour, we escaped to join Ian and the Barmy Army.
Fantastic atmosphere over with the Barmy Army, who kept the momentum going singing all morning, led by 'Jimmy Saville'!..... "Everywhere we go......"
The cricket was dire but the singing along with the Barmy Army more than made up for it! Picked up a few songs......."We are the Army, the Barmy Army........." and even the players were over the game as they were all happy to play along with "..... .... give us a wave!" So even got a wave from Freddie!
The Queen aka Gareth Southgate lookalike led "12 days of Christmas" wishing for a miracle ending ".... with a win at the SCG!"
The game didn't last that long before the Ashes were handed back to the Aussies (and yet the Aussie crowd still didn't sing!) The Aussies paraded with the Ashes led by Shane Warne. Through the celebrations it was only the Barmy Army you could hear! Jimmy directed us all to the Fox & Lion to continue the party! The place was filled with The Barmy Army all in good spirits - we even got some Aussies & Kiwis wanting to join up!
More singing continued into the late afternoon/evening led by Jimmy, Av It and The Queen.
