We once again had churros and hot chocolate for breakfast (a great, if not healthy, way to start the day). The majority of the day today was spent at the Spanish Royal Palace. The palace consisted of 24 opulent rooms and an armory. The rooms were ornate beyond belief and armory had more suits of armor, swords, and crossbows than I have ever seen in one place (Luke wants to buy a replica sword to bring home ... stay tuned on how that will end). I have figured out how Spain can get out of its debt crisis ... sell all of its old stuff! It would be out of the black in no time. We then went to the cathedral near the palace and then onto the Thyssen art museum. It was named after the guy who owned the collection before he sold it to Spain for $350 million (another reason for their debt). On the way, we almost had our second celebrity sighting. We picked up some yogurt and sat to eat it in a small plaza. Two large tour buses pulled up to the hotel next to us. Rob noticed the name "Kravitz" on a trunk as people were getting off the bus and collecting their luggage. Rob sat ready with the camera. I asked a guy from the bus near me if this was Lenny Kravitz's tour bus. It was but Lenny was not on it - darn! He's performing at a festival tomorrow, "Rio Madrid." On to the Thyssen museum - art from many periods, including some Impressionism, highlights for Ellie and Amy. But the real highlight was two paintings, circa 1850, of St. Anthony Falls, later to become Minneapolis. Pretty cool to see Mpls. in a museum in Madrid. After two hours we were all arted out. We went to a local joint for a local meal. The highlights were the black sausage and fried calamari (and the drunk guy sleeping on the floor of the booth behind us). We took a little walk around the neighborhood and then turned in for the evening.

Barb The pace you are keeping is amazing. I'm exhausted just reading about all the sights you are seeing. I hope each of you is writing down your personal impressions. Continue to be safe. Love, Mom
