Got off the plane and had to have our photo's and finger prints taken, skipped through arrivals and out. Went to get a drink and as long as you liked tea you were fine so we had apple tea. Then needed to buy our train tickets, relatively easy, then went to get on the train. I asked what thank you was in Japanese, 'arrigato' all the way to the train Sarah was saying, 'whats thank you again?' 'arrigato' then repeating it again and again. Got on the train where a man sat next to me and said 'present' 'why thank you very much' - two 2011 calenders, just what you need when landing in Japan, no further words were spoken and then 'one more present' and handed over a big cake. Salt of the earth. Sarah was insisting he was about to ask for money or murder me or something but I didn't speak to him again and he got off the train payment free. We then had to get the tube, also very easy, got a 'Pasmo' card (a Japanese Oyster card). Got a little lost on foot finding the hotel but only for ten minutes or so. Time was one o'clock (lunchtime) we couldn't check in until three so headed into town. Was a Sunday so was very quiet, got to two o'clock and was starving so built up the courage to go to a little restaurant (nobody spoke English). It was a sign of the future - you put money in a vending machine pushed a button with the food you wanted (no idea what it was) it gave you a ticket and then sat down, they brought it out 'arrigato', 'what does that mean again?' for god sake! Ate it and went out full and happy. The hotel was ready for us and we had an action packed day ahead of us but needed a shower. The room was small but perfect the toilet had electric buttons for washing your backside (I am Mick Dundee). I was sat on the bed, Sarah had gone for a shower, when... ARGHHH! I thought she had hurt herself, actually the toilet had started spraying her bum, I then had the opportunity to laugh at her. We were showered by four, the laid down for two minutes.

Sarah The train tickets were not easy!! We had to go ask a lady in a shop about the Pasmo cards - that was such a struggle! Pasmo? Yes Pasmo. Pasmo? Yes Pasmo. Oh Pasmo! Yes, Pasmo - what did i say?! And remember how we thought it so funny on our walk into town that people stopped at the zebra crossings when there was nothing there!! P.S. Did we even try that cake that the man gave to us?!
Sarah Oh and remember at the airport how there was ONE person in front of us in a que so that a came flapping over to us and directed us to someone who was free - London could learn a lot from Tokyo!!
