So it was adios Cadiz, and hola Seville. As we left the the wind prone Atlantic coast and headed north to Seville, the wind and solar farms gave way to hills covered in sunflowers and golden wheat and of course olives.
We came to Seville in 2016 so we felt quite comfortable finding our way around to all the “must see again places” on Jeans list. Even the purveyors of rosemary, mint, sunglasses and bangles ignored us, so we felt quite like locals as we strolled along.
Unlike our first visit to Seville, we had no problems finding a great place to eat. We just asked the girl on the hotel reception and got her recommendations and it was fantastic. Check out the fb photos. However, by “no problems finding…” that does not refer to locating the place geographically, albeit with google maps working overtime and the occasional lapse of confidence in google and the navigator as we seemed to take twice as long to get there as initially indicated on the map.
But get there we did and it was worth every bit of “ discussion” along the way.
Feeling well and truely satisfied, we headed slowly back to our hotel, enjoying the balmy night air and the sights and sounds of this wonderful city.
Day 2 and it’s up early, (9:30, for a 10:00 ) start at the Real Alcázar. With pre-booked tickets in hand, we bypassed the queues and were inside in no time. After a very pleasant couple of hours wandering through the gardens and sundry parts of the palace, we headed back into the city, which by this time had well and truly sprung into life with tour groups blocking the footpaths at every vantage point. Undeterred, and multiple shoe shoes, Zara, Benetton and a whole lot more, it was back to the hotel for a couple of hours before heading out to challenge the accuracy of google maps once more.
By this time we were master navigator(s) and found our target tapas bar with a couple of minutes to spare before it opened at 8:00pm. Judging by the crowd (about 30) waiting outside, it seemed like this was the place to eat, a 17th century tapas bar complete with the original bar staff.
Tonight we thought that we would well and truly get into the tapas swing and stand at the bar to eat. Clams in a Mediterranean sauce of peppers, and something else that made it delicious, then slow cooked pigs check that just melted in the mouth, peppers stuffed with Bacalau (cod), a plate of almost puréed spinach with chickpeas and garlic, all washed down with a glass wine. It was so good there was no time for photos. Sorry Darryl. 😢😢
A gelato on the way back and that was our all too brief stay in Seville.
Tomorrow it’s the train to Zaragoza.
Buenas noches.
