Can anyone guess what our picture is of today?! If you look closely (very closely!) there is a glow worm in this pic! Thankfully we got some much better photos from our Waitomo glow worm caves black water rafting experience! We arrived early to get into our sexy wetsuits and helmets etc then headed off to get some abseiling lessons. Then we went to one of the cave entrances to lower ourselves 37 meters down a hole! We then experienced a flying fox (zip line) in total darkness (possibly my fav bit!) before getting into the water in our tubes (by getting in the water, I mean taking a 3 meter leap into the freezing cold water in the pitch black-ahhh!). We explored some narrow tunnels packed with glow worms which look a bit like the best night sky you've ever seen. We were also able to get up close with some of the worms and learned about their life cycle, including the fact they are actually maggots not worms. After that we headed up the river though some tight squeezes and climbed two water falls to escape the darkness. Definitely not for the faint hearted! Amazing! Thanks Jay and Iona! And just to top off a great day, Ireland beat the Aussies!!! What a result!
