Today was hectic - it started at 7 and straight on the bus heading for the farthest North you can go in New Zealand.
Our first stop on the way was a viewing point where we could see the meeting of two seas: The Tasmin and The Pacific Ocean. I grew up just assuming they just met: two enoromous pools of water just gently flowing into one another.
How wrong I was.
It was like looking down aon a map. You could see the definitely line seperating them, and lines of waves crashed into each other creating a definite white boundary. It took me completely by surprise to see it like this, and was very impressed.
The other thing that struck me when walking and driving around today was just how many different shades of green there are! The land around us was so lush and well maintained, the different colours made it seem like we were looking at a Dulux wall chart.
It was also a particularly spiritual place for the Maoris, as they believed all their spirits come here when they die.
Next stop was sand surfing. We climbed about 60m up the dunes and boarded all the way down. Sand goes everywher: hair, mouth, nose, eyes, ass, and I find it it some weird places in the shower - but it was a rush, the speeds we made were fantastic, and we got in a couple of good runs.
After all this we drove back along the 90 Mile Beach, a long stretch of coast with the waves crashing around the bus. It was a brilliant experience, and topped off with the best Fish and Chips in NZ.
Sweet as!
