People are crazy.
What sort of idiot jumps of a platform 134 metres above a shallow river and jagged rocks with only an elastic rope attached to their feet to stop them from plummeting to their death?
Well, actually it would seem that I am that sort of idiot. Yesterday i did the world famous Nevis Bungee jump, the highest commercial jump in New Zealand, and I think it might be the second or third highest ini the world.
And it was ace. A much greater rush of adrenalin than the skydive. I think because you can see the ground beneath you so clearly, and the speed at which you fall in the 8.5 seconds it takes for the rope to do its thing, the fear coupled with the rush makes it such an exhilirating experience. It's hard to desribe quite how it makes you feel, and you barely have time to think about yourself as you are falling, but retrospectively, and perhaps morbidly, it gave me a thrill risking hitting the floor!
The ground rushes towards you, and without an instructor on your back, and not being able to see the bungee itself, for all you know nothing will stop you - I felt more free than I ever had before, and the fact I didn't die is even better.
I would recommend it to anybody, and really want to do it again myself. maybe the bigger one in South Africa next time.
And what better way to celebrate not dying, and our last night in Queenstown, than with a spot of Karaoke.
Probably one of the best days of my life so far!!!!!
