Sunday : sunny
Another early rise this morning, grant and I went down and grabbed some breaky from a cafe across the road. Kim wasn't up yet so I bought back something for her.
Once we were all ready we left the hotel and had a quick walk to the colosseum.
It looked pretty good on the approach, and once inside it looked brilliant. We bought a guided tour ticket, but had 30min before it started so we walked around the middle level before meeting the up with the tour.
The tour was good, the guide used walky talkies to tell us all the facts. Like the seating of all the different casts, and where the emperor entered and sat. What it looked like with all it's white marble, and the timber roof and flooring that held up the canvas and sand. What events went on here and how the dungeon operated. It was pretty cool info the guide also said arena means sand in Latin, Sydney acer sand haha. After the tour we walked around some more and just hung out inside and outside.
We then went for lunch at a nice sunny outdoor restaurant, but then the peace was disrupted when we were joined by around 50 american kids, yelling and mucking around. We left that place and headed to another restaurant, where it was much quieter.
After lunch we headed for the Roma forum, it is where all the ancient roman ruins are. They were great to walk around for the rest of the arvo, looking at all the old fallen down buildings. Lots of them had been buried by the old emperors to build ontop of. The walk up to palatine hill took us to first century palaces and a stadium. The views back over Rome and colosseum were awesome.
We hung out on the street briefly listening to some street busking, then walked back to the hotel and had a nice pasta wine dinner before heading up to the room.
