Day 1 of Indochina Tour - Monday 19th April - Bangkok
We met our tour guide 'Pok' and our fellow travellers - Jem & Phil - our new drinking buddies! We broke the ice over a lovely meal on Koh San Road and then headed back to the hotel.
Day 2 - Tuesday 20th April - Bangkok
Our first trip out was on a long tail boat showing the sights of Bangkoks canals. It was interesting to see the other side of how people live in this poor area. We fed bread to some very fiesty catfish whilst the pigeons perched high above looked on in envy/disgust!!
After our boat trip we wandered through a local market selling dried fish in every variety imaginable including dried fish guts which actually looked like yummy pork scratchings!
Our next stop was at Wat Po - An amazing temple housing the 3rd largest reclining buddah in Thailand (around 48metres long).
We sweated our way back to our hotel in the 39degree heat. The hotel pool looked like an obvious choice to cool down however the water temperature can be likened to that of a jacuzzi.
Later that day we set off towards the train station to catch our overnight train to Chiang Mai. We made the journey of 720km in a mere 14 hours!! This train would not qualify as high speed! It was a little noisy to say the least however we did manage to get in a few ZZzz's (if there were snores, they wouldn't have been heard!)
A train station is where train stops. On my desk, I have a work station!
