We picked up the rental car from the Biarritz train station National/Citer car rental company at 10:30. It was a cute and pretty much brand new Citroën C3, with the option to switch between manual and automatic transmission.
First off, driving on the other (wrong) side of the road wasn't as bad as I thought it could be, although I did veer too much to the right at the beginning.
Secondly, we got a little lost making our 2km trip back to the Inter Amarys Biarritz hotel. Wasn't stressing though.
After loading the car up with our stuff, we were off to Toulouse by noon. It was relatively easy getting onto the motorway and driving on it was pretty easy too! 130km was the speed limit, and keeping to the right (instead of the left) was pretty easy too. It was really fun and relaxing driving!!
We had a bit of drama finding the hotel though, after getting off the motorway, we'd made the wrong turn (the mappy directions were confusing!) and after asking at a burger joint, a service station and consulting a local area map, we finally found the 'Residence Thibaud', which is actually really close to the highway turnoff! The hotel (or really, the cabin) was in a commercial area but everyone we'd asked for help were extremely helpful (the burger joint even printed out google maps for us).
The lady at Residence Thibaud recommended alot of spots to visit in Toulouse. When we finally got to the Toulouse town centre, it was a beautiful and charming little old town, with lots of great shopping!
Found a strip of restaurants where locals hang out and settled for French style tapas.
Walked a little more around the town (the scenery by the river reminded me a little like the River Seine in Paris, sans all the gothic architectural buildings) before heading back to the cabin (we made it back really easily somehow!).
