We both woke up early to have the petit dejeuner at the hotel courtyard. It was a lovely setting with a slight summer breeze blowing. A great start to the morning!
We headed out to explore the rest of this region, first stopping at (another) lavender distillery in Apt, then headed to Rousillion, a town famous for its ochre rocks. We didn't stop though, it was crowded with tourists and there was no park!
Next town: Lacoste -- a town apparently bought by Pierre Cardin! Not much to see though, just has a nice view over the valley.
Then we went to Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, another beautiful town, but this time it was slightly different, it was like a mini Venice, with very very clear river streams and shops and cafes all along it. Very cute little town, quite different to the other towns we'd visited in this region. We dipped our feet in the (freezing) cold water and then headed off...to Aix-en-Provence!
What was meant to only be a 1.5 hour drive took over 2 hours, as we hit some
bad traffic entering the Aix-en-Provence town centre. We got to Hotel Du Globe at 5:30pm, and after parking the car in the hotel's garage, we walked around the town centre. There were lots of shops...and all of them were on sale!! We knew what our plan will be for tomorrow.
The hotel lady recommended a traditional provençale cuisine restaurant called "Chez grand mére", I had the rabbit terrine (quite good) and the stuffed squid with amorena (?) sauce...which was terrible -- the sauce was way too heavy and thick and the stuffing in the squid tasted like stuffing you'd find in a turkey at Christmas -- something you wouldn't really eat. The only good thing about the meal was getting to eat in a lovely terrace area outdoors next to a fountain on the street.
We roamed the streets of Aix a little more after dinner, attempting to find a restaurant serving chocolate fondant for dessert...however, all restaurants refuse to serve you just dessert, it always has to include a main course as well. Hmmmm.....
