We woke up early to move the car from the street to the parking station, had a petit dejeuner (breakfast), then went shopping and wandering around the streets of Montpellier for the rest of the day. Montpellier is a slightly larger city than Toulouse, more commercial, more students and young people, lovely streetscape and fantastic shopping yet again.
We both fell in love with a pair of dark rose Miu Miu leather flats, and both got the same style (in a different size). Difficult not to when it's 50% off! (only €147).
We left Montpellier at 4pm, headed to Apt (the lavender region). We stopped off at Avignon (again) at 5:30. The Avignon festival was on so there was a sea of people everywhere! Lots of theatrical acts and events going on in the street too. It was a totally different feel to the Avignon we visited at nighttime one month ago whilst we were on the Topdeck tour. Very lively and fun, and still very beautiful of course! We stayed for 1.5 hours, getting directions to go to Apt.
We travelled on national roads (non-highway) to reach Apt in just over an hour, and the drive in was absolutely beautiful...the landscape turned into paddocks of grapevines, fruit trees, gardens and rolling hills in the distance. Getting extremely excited about visiting lavender fields in the next 2 days!
We arrived into Apt and we both beamed with excitement as the town was so quaint and exquisite!! We kinda got lost again, driving around town for 5 mins before we saw a big sign: "Auberge du Luberon" (our hotel) in front of us. It was so random how we were so busy admiring the cute town but in the end the hotel found us (well I guess the town isn't big so it wouldn't have been too difficult to find anyway). The hotel overlooks a tiny river with mini bridges crossing over to the main town square on the other side. It was a very clean and 'homely' decorated hotel room. Just wonderful!
We tried the "Cafe de France" restaurant just literally across the bridge and road and we had some traditional provençale cuisine. Very nice, hearty food. We talked to an Australian couple from Brisbane (whose origins are French, so could speak it perfectly). There were on holidays in France for a while and exploring the region.
It was a wonderful night of good food and great wine!
