We left at 10am to head from Toulouse to Montpellier, via Carcassonne, the medieval city with a giant fortress.
We got to Carassonne in just over 1 hour and man, 'La Cité' was so grand, like we had literally stepped back into medieval times! There was the main fortress with a web of little streets surrounding it, very very cute place! People were dressed up in medieval dress, stores were selling medieval knick knacks, had some wonderful lavender and nougat 'artisan' ice cream.
The Carcassonne castle / fortress was pretty well restored inside, with remnants of the gadgets and weaponry and scenic views overlooking the city of Carcassonne. The Carcassonne castle was pretty cool and different to everything else I'd seen so far.
We left around 4pm to head to Montpellier, getting there at 5:30pm.... However, navigating to our hotel was absolute mayhem! There were alot of road closures (as they were building a new tram line) and French roads (and bad or non-existent road signs) are just plain..confusing!
We finally arrived at the hotel close to 8pm, after alot of circling around and asking for directions. Surprisingly, ne and Andie both didn't feel too pissed off or flustered about getting lost, it was kinda fun doing so, and trying to navigate a totally foreign city, when you don't even know which street you are on.
There was a minor drama though, when Andie thought she'd lost her iPhone 4, she'd searched the car twice as well as her luggage thoroughly...and getting worried about the private info that could be on there.
After dinner at a Japanese restaurant, she searched the car again, and found it in the side pocket, amongst all the maps!
