Today was the day we decided to go and see all the big sight´s of Rio. We started off with a trip on the cable cars up to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, the views from the top across the Rio coastline were incredable. There were some little walkways at the top where you could walk through a jungle area. As we were walking around jungle we suddenly heard a lot of manic rustling just above our heads we looked up and there were some tiny little monkeys play fighting, the funniest moment was when some Brazilian women came to have a look and tried to take some pictures but as one of them moved forward a monkey jumped on her back, the monkey was sat the very calmly while the woman ran around waving here arms screaming, priceless :-) On the way down from sugar loaf the cable car cam to a violent stop and swayed in the air for a while, turned out the power had gone down so we were stck there for about 10 minutes (which Sally love being scared of heights and being claustrophobic! I though it was great fun, Hehe!).
Sight number 2 for the day (and most probably the best sight) was ´Christ Redeemer´. For some reason (I´m still not exactally sure why) we decided to try and walk to Christo (Christ) from Sugar Loaf (not as easy as it looks!), after an hour of wrong turns we gave up and took the taxi only to find out that we were short of money to enter by about R$4!! I blame the Lonley planet for telling us it only cost R$30 when it was actually R$43! In the end we had to catch the bus back to Copacobana and pick up some money and head back again but it was well worth the wait, we got to see the sunset of the city and also the Christ in the dark with all the bright lights on him that allow you to see him at night from almost anywhere in Rio.
On Wednesday night Cloudio invited us to go and see a football match with him - Flamenco, the biggest team in Brazil, vs Corinthians, the current American champions. The atmosphere was great with all the Cariocas (Rio´s people) singing, dancing and screaming together. Sadly Flamenco lost 3-0 but it was still a great night out (maybe not so much for poor Cloudio).
