Day 27. Up very early as we are going fishing for the big barramundi. Drove north of Kununnurra along the Weaber Plains Road about 80km to the big waterhole on the Keep River. Ord River Stage 2 development of irrigation channels, drains and roads well underway by Leighton contractors. Crossed the border into the Northern Territory, at once the road became rough and red. Down at the waterhole as soon as we started fishing noticed two big salties on the other bank. Another one swimming in the middle of the river. Ross decided wisely to keep on 'Croc Watch' while I continued to bravely wander the bank casting lures for the big barra. In the end it was just too worrying for us so we decided to head for the vehicle and get outa there. Same old story you might say! Back to the sandalwood factory for coffees and lunch, must safer here. Met an old farmer called Rocky Lurch who grows pumpkins and melons but has now retired to Bundaberg. Back in Kununnurra we took in the museum and butcher shop, then out along Packsaddle Road to visit the fruit farm and Zebra Rock shop. Back to the campsite for a swim and a beer before a big BBQ cook-up as tomorrow we leave the Kimberley and travel east.
