Day 25. A day driving around the Ord River irrigation crops. First, up to Toyota to book the Prado in for an oil change, new filters and a tyre rotation, then to the airport to check on our sightseeing flight over the Bungles tomorrow morning. The Ord irrigation crop region is vast and set for expansion. The major tree root crop is sandalwood and agri crops of pumpkins, beans, melons, bananas, mangoes, melons, corn, sorghum, and seed crops of chia, coriander and lettuce. Fascinating seeing the irrigation channels and gates bringing water into the black clay soils. Dropped into the Crop Research Station where Ross once worked in the 1960s and strolled around the buildings with great views to the Ord and yet another croc! A visit to the sandalwood factory and shop for coffees and gifts. Then the Hootchery Rum Distillery for some tasting (Ross says not very good!). A constant 33 degrees and sunny here in the dry season, never changes. Stopped at Mirima National Park for lunch of rockmelon and almonds and for a walk up to the lookout - brilliant red weathered gorges overlooking Kununnurra. Back to the campsite for a swim and read before dinner of barra burgers down by the lake.
